Amazon Confirms Plans to Support Apple Pay on Visa Rewards Card in the Future

Following the launch of Apple Pay earlier this week, a number of users were disappointed to discover that the Amazon Rewards Card offered by Chase was not supported, although the reason for the omission was unclear given that many other Chase cards do support Apple Pay. Amazon has, however, now confirmed to GeekWire that it does plan to support Apple Pay with the card in the future. Amazon reportedly is working to enable the service for launch at an undisclosed date.

But an Amazon spokesman confirmed to GeekWire this evening it is working to enable the Amazon.com Rewards Visa Card for use on Apple Pay, although declined to say when it would be available.


Chase representatives reportedly confirmed that Amazon opted out of Apple Pay and was the only consumer Chase card that was not compatible with the payment service. The reason for this non-participation was not provided, sparking rumors that Amazon was deliberately rebuffing Apple's mobile payment efforts for competitive reasons.

Apple launched Apple Pay on Monday with the support of high-profile retailers such as Walgreens and major credit card companies including Visa, Master Card, and American Express. Apple Pay works with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, both of which include an NFC chip to process the transactions wirelessly at compatible point-of-sale terminals. The new iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 are also compatible with Apple Pay, but only for in-app purchases.

Why not focus on making this available to non-US customers?

This is an Amazon / Chase issue, not Apple. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Only card I have that didn't work. Welcome news - and would be even better if Amazon ends up supporting Apple Pay on their website.....my Amazon card is only ever used for those purchases and somehow my information was stolen last year.

I don't get it......what is so much better about using a cell phone (which has problems with lasting an entire day without a charge anyway) to pay for something than simply swiping a credit card?

Really, it makes no sense to me.
Security. This right here will be the selling point. It's a token that gets passed, no customer info and no customer credit card is sent.
convenience, less to carry. Also, I lose my wallet, I am calling a few companies to cancel cards too. yes, I won't be liable, but it will be a pain and take time. Someone takes my phone, they need my finger to buy anything AND just go to Find My iPhone and wipe the phone.

I used it at Whole Foods, Walgreens, and Panera and it was VERY fast.

I get over a day with my iPhone 6 and I email a lot, texting, facebook, on websites, and others. People with an iPhone 6 Plus gets even better life than me.

but Banana is potentially losing a customer.... Just saying.....

Just be sure to let them know WHY. If enough people speak up and they start losing customers, we'll see companies changing their tune real quick.
