Siri AI Might Tell You to Take Breaks, Remind You It's Not a Real Person

Code strings discovered in iOS 27 suggest that Apple may be planning to show users a break reminder after especially long Siri AI conversations.

New Siri Wave
Strings of code in the first developer beta of ‌iOS 27‌ refer to a "Take a Break Message" that would remind users they have been in a conversation for an extended period and that ‌Siri‌ is not a real person. Based on the shared code, the reminder appears to read: "You've been in this conversation for [n] hours - consider taking a break. ‌Siri‌ is not a person, but will be here when you're ready to continue."

Where screen time tools typically focus on usage duration, Apple appears to be specifically addressing the risk of parasocial attachment to AI, building in a prompt that explicitly reframes ‌Siri‌ as a tool rather than a companion. The concern is part of a broader conversation across the AI industry about unhealthy usage patterns. Both OpenAI and Google have moved to add guardrails to their chatbot products, and Anthropic has been spotted nudging Claude users toward healthier habits after long sessions.

Apple touched on several privacy and responsibility considerations for ‌Siri‌ AI during last week's WWDC keynote, but did not address the question of extended conversations. The existence of these code strings suggests the company is thinking about the issue behind the scenes.

It is not yet clear how Apple would trigger the reminder. The code does not appear to specify a fixed time threshold, suggesting the company may use conversation length in combination with other signals to determine when to display the message.

A handful of years ago I was driving with my late 70's family member, using Apple Maps to guide me. In between turns she leaned to me and asked quietly, "Is he (I have my Siri set to a male voice) leading other people too, or just us?"

It was funny in the moment, and I tried to explain to her, but I don't think she ever got it. She would also have me occasionally help with calling the cable company to resolve issues because there was a rude lady who never wanted to transfer her to the correct person, and would even hang up on her! (Also AI, thanks Xfinity...)

She's no longer with us now, but these are just a couple instances to demonstrate that viewpoints simply differ. Of course people who are on this forum KNOW that Siri is not real. But not everyone might.

😆🤣😂 now that is damm funny just made my day when has Siri ever been considered a real person really🤣
The sad part is now they need warning labels on AI so they don’t get sued, probably because people are falling in love them, seeking medical advice, forming friendships. Those people I hope do get the help they need

I think that Siri should handle para social attachment with a mike drop saying:

‘Here’s what I found on the web’

And then inexplicably shutting down.

Y’know, like it does now !

Nothing annoys me more than an AI telling me to take a break. Although not quite AI, my Audi has a warning to stop and rest after a few hours of driving. I disabled that as soon as I could. What's next? AI tells you when to eat and use the restroom? No one is going to be able to think for themselves anymore if they rely on AI for every life decision.
So you’re upset that the ai itself is reminding the user NOT to rely on it for every life decision, and your argument is that by it telling you not to rely on it, you’re relying on it. Ok.
