Apple PDA Rumor Roundup & Speculation
"'We are focused on the personal computer space, not the handheld space, and that's that,' said Phil Schiller, Apple's vice president of worldwide product marketing. 'I hate to
use these words, but there's nothing going on.'"
Strong words from Phil Schiller... but do you believe it?MacUser UK had this convincing report in February:
"Reports from numerous MacUser sources indicate a deal between Palm and its parent company 3Com has been completed and that development on a colour-screened handheld for Apple has been on going for months."
Meanwhile, remember that Jobs admitted to Fortune that Apple attempted to purchase the Palm Pilot from 3COM. Has this strong interest in Palm technology disappeared?
Wired also seemed to think that the Apple PDA was at hand back in January. And we also reported of Apple's PDA coming very soon.
So, what happened and what will happen?
1) MacOS Rumors claims that the Apple "Handheld" rumors are getting crossed with Apple 'Net Applicance projects which are in the works.
2) It's certainly possible that Apple has decided against pursuing it - instead, keeping their focus on their hardware, and simply ensuring Palm <-> Mac compatibility.
3) Appearing less likely is the appearance of a full-fledged Apple branded handheld.
