PowerPC to Intel Transition Continues, No More iMac G5

As followup to previous reports that Apple had discounted the 20" iMac G5, several readers have noted that the iMac G5 is no longer available on Apple's online store.

While some refurb units remain, all new iMacs are now shipping with the Intel processor.

Meanwhile the 15" G4 PowerBook and PowerPC Mac mini have also been absent from the Apple store. Apple is expected to transition the entire Mac line to Intel processors in 2006.

The iBook, 12"/17" PowerBook and PowerMac remain. According to some reports Intel PowerMacs are expected as early as August to coincide with WWDC while the Intel iBook (MacBook?) may arrive in April. Preliminary reports have also suggested that the 17" MacBook Pro could be announced as early as April.
