T-Mobile's JUMP! Upgrade Program Now Includes AppleCare+

by

T-Mobile customers who purchase a smartphone or tablet on an Equipment Installment Plan, which divides the device's cost into monthly payments, can enroll in JUMP! for $12 per month and upgrade to a new smartphone or tablet once half the cost of their current device is paid off. T-Mobile covers the remaining payments following trade in.

Now, the carrier has added a perk for iPhone and iPad owners that makes JUMP! more competitive with Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program.

T-Mobile today announced that JUMP! now includes "AppleCare Services" for no additional charge. These services include typical AppleCare+ perks such as 24/7 priority access to AppleCare technical support via chat or phone and accidental damage coverage, including the same $29 fee for iPhone screen damage.

- 24/7 priority access to AppleCare technical support via chat or phone
- Low service fees such as $29 for iPhone screen damage
- $0 for battery service
- Apple-certified repair or replacement at Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers
- Hardware service with genuine Apple parts
- Software support for iOS, iCloud, and Apple-branded iOS apps
- Hardware repairs and service backed by Apple

By comparison, Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program spreads out the full cost of an iPhone and AppleCare+ into monthly payments over two years with zero percent interest, with the option to upgrade to a new iPhone after as few as 12 payments. A base model iPhone 7 with AppleCare+, for example, costs $32.41 per month.

More goodies. Goodies are cheaper than network buildout.
I'm throughly satisfied with the speed at which TMO is building out their network.

The fact that they're also doing stuff like this is why they're literally driving change in the US wireless industry.

You know you didn't need the signal booster all you needed to do was to turn on wifi calling nobody really needs those anymore.
We have that turned on. The problem? MEDIACOM SUCKS. My wife runs a daycare and needs a 100% working phone line. Don't ever assume that WiFi will always save you. In many areas of the country cable companies have monopolies. You don't have a choice on who you go with, and they know it and can provide crappy service. We get a good signal upstairs where we have large floor to ceiling windows overlooking the woods and cell tower down to the south. I just have to stick the booster there and we'll be solid.

Also, unless I'm missing something... why would you want to pay T-Mobile $12 a month when AppleCare+ only costs 5.38 per month?
one big reason is because jump also covers theft or loss.

And easy answer. If you're in JUMP! 1.0, no AppleCare. Really happy that guy clarified the difference between my plan and my JUMP! tier. Whew.

Pretty sure Apple's iPhone Upgrade Program spreads out the full cost of an iPhone PLUS the cost of AppleCare+ over two years with zero percent interest. AppleCare+ is not free with apple's upgrade program.

Also, unless I'm missing something... why would you want to pay T-Mobile $12 a month when AppleCare+ only costs 5.38 per month?
It includes loss and theft. Also you can't pay for AppleCare+ monthly. When you're living just a little better than paycheck to paycheck that makes a difference. And yes those of us in that position can get iPhones.

This is true. But are you implying that they're not spending on network buildout? Because that's the completely opposite of what they've been doing the past several years. Being a new customer, I called them up yesterday about 700MHz LTE coverage in my area. The representative was very knowledgable. She quickly located my nearest tower (she was accurate because I had previously looked it up), and looked at the upgrade notes for it. She said that it says "coming soon", and not a specific date. She said that if it's coming in the next 30 days, it will have a date listed. Otherwise when they put "coming soon" on there, it generally means it will be coming within 60-90 days. She expedited overnight shipping on a free signal booster for our home that we can use until the signal improves.

I get acceptable but not great coverage with my iPhone 7 (2-3 bars), but sometimes in the basement my wife has been having issues with her iPhone SE dropping briefly, which might be because it has a smaller antenna? Not sure exactly as I thought the modems were fairly similar. I do know that the SE uses the same modem as the 6s, which supports LTE Extended (700MHz). We live near the edge of town up against woods that stretch for miles, so I expected as much. As they continue to roll out LTE Extended, the problems will become fewer and far between. In the nearby Kansas City area, they have LTE Extended which seems to be much better overall.

T-Mobile is growing quite rapidly. Before switching I did a bit of research and it seems like their year over year improvements have been massive and they are continuing to reinvest in their infrastructure. They have a promo going right now for new customers to get 20% off their service if you get a code from an employee. I applied it to my account and it was approved, and it should be active the next billing cycle. That will make three lines of service with unlimited data and calling for only $80/mo. If I'm under 2GB of data on any given line, I get $10/mo off per line, so it's conceivable that there might be a month where I only pay $50, or more likely $60 as my wife and grandparents don't use much data. That is insanely good.
I'm outside of Kansas City too! Getting 2-3 bars on LTE. Not sure about building penetration here though. I was getting 1 bar of 4G where I work today.
