The new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro became available for pre-order earlier this week and it quickly became clear demand for the new laptops is high. Shortly after pre-orders opened, estimated shipments dates for the new MacBook Pros quickly began slipping, with some configurations being up to a month away from delivery.

The new ‌MacBook Pro‌ starts at $1,999 for the 14-inch model featuring an M1 Pro chip and can go as high as $6,099 for the 16-inch model with a maxed-out M1 Max chip, 64GB of unified memory, and 8TB of storage.

The new MacBook Pros are the first major redesign to the ‌MacBook Pro‌ since 2016 and include an expanded array of ports, a brand new mini-LED display featuring a notch, and the ‌M1 Pro‌ or ‌M1 Max‌ chips. Learn more about the new laptops using our roundups.

They won't be shipping to me. What a hideous design. And a notch in a laptop, but no Face ID? Are you kidding me??? Look how quickly they are rolling back the terrible design decision around the Safari tab colouring. Hardware design decisions are not so easily reversed. They need to get Ive back ASAP before they do something terminal.

Of course the saving grace will be the incredible M1 Pro and M1 Max, and for these alone I predict the laptops will sell well. If you are desperately waiting for yours I hope you don't have to wait too long!
You got more vertical screen out of the deal. It's in an area of the screen you don't use. The Notch is so much nothing.

I don't care what the thing looks like. None of those things bother me, but even if they did - I need power, and this has it. I have work to do. I own and operate a recording studio and these are dream machines for me. I've never understood people who buy computers based on what they look like. I mean, what do you do, just sit there and look at it? I'm not trying to be snarky, I really want to know why these things matter to you or anyone. This is a pro machine, it's not really about "sleekness" or other industrial design decisions that are often inverse to the functionality and power of the machine. Sorry, but I've just been stunned with what seems to be a complete misunderstanding of the purpose of these machines built for professionals. I can't help thinking that Intel sent out their minions to populate the boards with comments like "but the notch!!!" or "no Face ID!!!", frilly things that pros don't care about, to distract from the obvious. Not saying you are, but I wouldn't doubt it.

Agreed! I was horrified at the idea when the rumors of the notch first surfaced, but when I found out the aspect ratio was preserved in full screen mode, that the menubar went alongside the notch, and the mouse went behind, I was much less upset about it.
