Satechi Launches Pro Hub Slim for Apple's Latest MacBooks

Satechi today announced the launch of the Pro Hub Slim, which adds a selection of ports to Apple's latest MacBook models. Designed specifically for the M2 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, it has seven ports and joins the Pro Hub Max and Pro Hub Mini in Satechi's hub lineup.

The Pro Hub Slim is equipped with a USB4 port that supports up to 100W passthrough charging or 40Gb/s data transfer speeds, a 4K HDMI port, a USB-C port that supports data transfer speeds up to 10Gb/s, two USB-A ports with data transfer speeds up to 10Gb/s, and SD and microSD card readers with UHS-I data transfer speeds.

It is designed to attach to a ‌MacBook Air‌ or ‌MacBook Pro‌ using two USB-C ports, and it can be purchased in Midnight, Space Gray, or Silver to match Apple's notebooks. Though designed for the ‌M2‌ MacBook models, it is also compatible with older ‌MacBook Pro‌ and ‌MacBook Air‌ machines.

The Pro Hub Slim can be purchased from the Satechi website for $80, and through February 3, there is a 20 percent discount available with the promo code SLIM20.

MacBook Pro already has three Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports, an HDMI port, and an SD card reader, so you're really spendig $80 to get back the two Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports this is blocking (not to mention the loss of the 3.5mm jack), two USB-A ports and a microSD card reader. What a deal! 🤣

I'm increasingly bewildered by the persistence of new hubs with USB-A ports. I haven't bought an A device since… 2016? Aren't we all caught up by now?
I believe that nearly every computer, shy of Macs and the Dell XPS line, still ship with USB-A. Every peripheral I've purchased over the past few years have had a USB-A cable. FWIW.

You can end your bewilderment by stopping by your local Best Buy. Go in to the computer section and count how many computer accessories they stock that come with USB-C connector. Wireless keyboards and mice? NOPE. Printers? NOPE. Scanners? NOPE. Webcams? UNLIKELY any, but maybe a couple higher end models might. USB speakers? NOPE. Backup batteries? NOPE. USB flash drives? There are literally one or two brands that do USB-C. The vast majority are USB-A. That's just to name a few categories of accessories.

Now, YOU may not use accessories (or buy ONLY Apple peripherals designed for MacBooks), but the rest of the world still buys accessories and not many come with USB-C.
