Apple Now Selling Refurbished 15-Inch MacBook Air in U.S. and Canada

Apple today started selling certified refurbished 15-inch MacBook Air models online in the U.S. and Canada, following select European countries last week.

MacBook Air 15 Inch Feature Purple
As usual for refurbished Macs, prices are discounted by approximately 15% compared to brand new models. A variety of configurations are available to order.

Apple inspects, cleans, tests, and repackages all refurbished Macs to ensure they are fully functional and in good condition, and Apple's refurbished products are covered by a one-year limited warranty and eligible for AppleCare+ coverage.

Apple released the 15-inch MacBook Air at WWDC in June, with pricing starting at $1,299 in the U.S. The laptop has the same overall design and M2 chip as the 13-inch MacBook Air, but it features a larger display and two additional speakers. The laptop is available in four color options: Midnight, Starlight, Space Gray, and Silver.

Keep in mind that the 15-inch MacBook Air is frequently on sale at resellers, so be sure to keep track of our MacBook Air deals guide.

Much improved pricing than at launch. However, due to the shock of configured total price, I ended up just putting a new battery in my existing MB and will take a fresh look at maybe the M4 or M5 model in a few years. It would have been an easy day 1 sale but- IMO- Apple is demanding just too much for RAM and SSD upgrades (which universally happens when all competition is eliminated). At least refurb pricing makes it a bit more interesting to those who need a new laptop now.

Curious if Apple over-estimated demand at launch. Kind of quick to see these in the refurbished store, no?
These are customer returns. Apple's not transfering excess new inventory to sell as refurbished.

Note how a lot of them are custom configurations (i.e. 16GB or 24GB memory, and 1TB or 2TB storage options)

Just grabbed a 15" refurb 24gb Ram / 512gb SSD for $1448 out the door.. Can't beat that.

Would have liked the midnight color, but not a big deal.

*edit* I say out the door because I put Delaware as my pick up location since I'll be there this weekend anyway. so no taxes.

Yeah I was thinking this felt faster than I could recall other refurb releases post launch.
Not faster than 13-inch M2 MacBook Air.

13-inch M2 MacBook Air was announced on July 6, 2022 ('https://www.macrumors.com/2022/07/06/m2-macbook-air-release-date/'). Refurb units showed up for sale starting on Sep. 24, 2022 ('https://www.macrumors.com/2022/09/24/apple-refurbished-13-inch-macbook-pro-m2/'). That's 80 days.

15-inch M2 MacBook Air was announced on June 5, 2023 ('https://www.macrumors.com/2023/06/05/apple-new-15-inch-macbook-air/'). Refurb units showed up for sale today (Sep. 11, 2023). That's 98 days.

Other data points...

14-inch and 16-inch M2 Pro/Max MacBook Pro was announced on Jan. 17, 2023 ('https://www.macrumors.com/2023/01/17/apple-announces-m2-pro-macbook-pro/'). They hit the refurb store on May 8, 2023 ('https://www.macrumors.com/2023/05/08/refurbished-macbook-pro-m2-pro-m2-max/'). That's 111 days.

M1 Max/Ultra Mac Studio was announced March 8, 2022 ('https://www.macrumors.com/2022/03/08/apple-announces-powerful-mac-studio-with-companion-studio-display/'). They started selling refurb units on June 30, 2022 ('https://www.macrumors.com/2022/06/30/apple-begins-selling-refurbished-mac-studio/'). That's 114 days.

M2 Max/Ultra Mac Studio was announced on June 5, 2023. They were listed (but no inventory for sale) on refurb store on Sep. 5, 2023 ('https://www.macrumors.com/2023/09/05/2023-mac-studio-refurbished-listings/'). Expect inventory to show up probably some time within the next week or two which would put it in the same range as M1 Max/Ultra Mac Studio.
