Prices on the M1 models start at $449.00 for the 64GB Wi-Fi iPad Air, down from $599.00, and increase to $599.00 for the 256GB Wi-Fi iPad Air, down from $749.00. Both of these have estimated delivery dates for May 14-16 for most residences in the United States.

What is the best buy for the current iPad models between the current and past generations of iPads for the regular user?

As an owner of 3 iPads (and immediate family has 3 more), I'd say M1 Air @ $449 is best value in the line up, now. You can certainly expect a lot of the 11" Magic Keyboards to come up on the used market.

The only caveat - if you do a lot of FaceTime, the landscape camera on the 10th gen @ $349 might make more sense.

If/when they start discounting the 10th gens similar to like they did with the 9th gens ($330>$250) then the 10th gen is going to be a hell of a deal. Several improvements for $20 more

The only thing that I don't like about my current M1 Air is that it only has 64 gigs of memory. It hasn't been a huge problem yet, but I'm tired of having to constantly delete things. That said, ugh. Upgrading just to have more storage just won't be happening. I just can't justify the expense for what I use this iPad for... I wasn't planning on putting a lot on here, but messages and photos and everything else just balloon out to these insane sizes.

Record discount unless you consider the $399 deal for 64GB Starlight at Best Buy a week or so ago.
I jumped on that and plan to keep it considering the updates don't impact what I use it for very much.
