Apple Releases iPadOS 17.7.8

Apple today released iPadOS 17.7.8, an update that is designed for iPad users who are not able to install the latest iPadOS 18 update.

iPadOS 17.7.8 comes a few days after Apple stopped signing iPadOS 17.7.7, the prior version of iPadOS that was available on older iPads. iPadOS 17.7.7 was preventing some users from being able to log into their apps, and iPadOS 17.7.8 presumably addresses the issue.

According to Apple's release notes, the update includes security fixes.

This update provides important security fixes and is recommended for all users. For information on the security content of Apple software updates, please visit this website: https://support.apple.com/100100

iPadOS 17.7.8 is available for the sixth-generation ‌iPad‌, 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and the second-generation 12.9-inch ‌iPad Pro‌. It can be downloaded by going to the Software Update section in the Settings app on eligible devices.

Looks like the attention to detail Apple had is long gone:

For me and my iPad 6th Gen the problems with iOS17.7.7 were the disappearing Favourites Bar in Safari, the continual hassle with re-logging into apps and the re-allowing Location services, particularly with the weather widget.

This is now all fixed with iOS 17.7.8 😁

Good to see updates for older devices but however just to be safe it might be better to wait for a few days before updating. Hopefully there will be no issues.

They really need to fix the problem in TV app on macOS where age restricted content cannot be started at all even with no age restrictions whatsoever in place.
What does this have to do with this thread?

Might be a good idea as all older versions of 17 are no longer signed, including 17.7.6 ('https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/apple-stops-signing-ios-18-4-1.2457366/'). No rolling this one back.

Quick interwebs search turned up a Reddit post that says the login issue is fixed fwiw.
