Shazam App Updated with Music Discovery, New-Look Tab Bar and More

by

shazamJust a couple of weeks after rebuilding its iPad app as a universal app, Shazam has released another update, this time adding a music discovery feature called Pulse, a new-look tab bar, and more.

Pulse allows users on both iPad and iPhone to see and sample music that is being tagged the most by Shazam users in real time. Other improvements include the ability to easily delete Favorite tags from the iPad edition and a new tab bar with more information.

New look tab bar:

-Settings is now located on the top left of the home screen

-When a Friend tags, they appear in the tab bar

-Chart updates are displayed in the tab bar

Shazam is a universal app that is available in the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

Shazam users that want an ad-free experience can upgrade from within Shazam or can download Shazam Encore for $6.99. [Direct Link]

I'm surprised Apple hasn't bought Shazam and integrated it into iTunes/Siri

They both are horrible for classical music too unless it's a piece and recording that has been in a well known film soundtrack.

I whish it were better for classical music, too. I wonder if the problem is in their database or lack of aggregate tagging? My guess would be the database, due to the immense number of remakes of the same pieces.

Instead of these useless features, it would be nice if they put in a way to export one's tag history.

I use Shazam mainly, but if a song comes up unknown I then try it in Soundhound. It's seems to be a 50/50 chance that Soundhound will know it instead. In my experience, Soundhound seems to get songs completely wrong though. I'm guessing that has to do with the ability to guess songs from humming. Sometimes I will play the song for it, and it gives a result that is obviously wrong. If I try it again a few seconds later, it will then sometimes come back with the right one. There seems to be no ideal app solution.

Because of these issues, I have both apps together on my phone. They both are horrible for classical music too unless it's a piece and recording that has been in a well known film soundtrack.
