Apple Maps Gains 23 New Flyover Locations Around the World

Apple today updated its iOS feature availability page with 23 new Flyover locations around the world, including cities in the United States, Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.

Flyover is an Apple Maps feature that provides photo-realistic 3D views of primarily large cities and landmarks. In satellite view, users can zoom, pan, and rotate to get a closer look at notable points of interest in supported regions.

The full list of new Flyover locations is available below, but some areas may only now be reflected on Apple's website:

  • A Coruña, Spain

  • Ajaccio, France

  • Archon, France

  • Bastia, France

  • Besançon, France

  • Blackpool, England

  • Bonifacio, France

  • Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

  • Calvi, France

  • Corte, France

  • Ghent, Belgium

  • Guaymas, Mexico

  • Messina, Italy

  • Mobile, AL, United States

  • Newcastle, Australia

  • Nottingham, England

  • Porto-Vecchio, France

  • Propriano, France

  • Raleigh, NC, United States

  • Salamanca, Spain

  • San Sebastián, Spain

  • Taichung, Taiwan

  • Wichita, KS, United States

Apple also confirmed that Maps traffic data is now available in Malaysia and Singapore in southeast Asia.

Apple added 20 new Flyover locations in 12 countries last month.

I thought they would consider fixing the massive coverage gaps in central London (e.g. west of Hyde Park) before the likes of Nottingham would be added.

I don't understand why it takes so long. Surely a couple of fly bys in a special plane are all that are required?
Because there are people who live outside London and the South East? Also, flying a plane around over major cities often requires clearance - not quite so simple.

I wish Apple would have left the maps to Google. Flyover is cool, but Google Maps has so much of a lead on Apple Maps it's not even funny.
Why? You can still use Googles maps, and with Apples competition, Google are pushed to improve even more. Its a win-win for consumers.

Personally I use Apple maps as they are more than adequate for my use and they work well with Siri.
