Exploration Game 'Gone Home' Expanding to iOS on December 11

by

Popular adventure exploration game Gone Home is expanding to iOS devices, with a release scheduled for December 11.

Gone Home, which first came out in 2013, requires players to take on the role of a young girl who returns from a trip to find her Oregon home empty and her family gone.

Players will need to explore the home to look for clues to figure out what happened. The non-linear gameplay mainly consists of examining items like journals, photographs, and other items, with little interactivity involved.

The iOS version of Gone Home will be published by Annapurna Interactive. It has previously been available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Mac, Linux, and PC. Gone Home has won several awards and it has been praised for its unique gameplay style.

Gone Home can be pre-ordered from the App Store ahead of its December 11 release starting today. It is priced at $4.99.

Yeah, take this one slowly and enjoy the trip. I made the same mistake as everyone else and assumed there were more things to "do", and the ambiance really does set you up for that too. It's a beautifully done narrative exploration -- they even got a real Portland band to record some of the music -- but it's not so much a "game" in the end.

I played it on my Mac some time ago and loved the ambience.
Fortunately I went in knowing that it's an interactive story and I can't do anything to fudge up the result. Stepping into somebody's home and discovering their life was a nice way to spend an evening on the couch.

Thank you, @jclo, for mentioning that up front. While I did enjoy this game, I was disappointed by the lack of conventional game mechanics. I ended up rushing through a lot of it, assuming I was doing something wrong because every action lead to more exposition.

If you go in knowing it's more of an interactive 3D story, I imagine it'd be a blast.
It was for me. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of it.

I’m really excited to get this and show it to my daughter. She’s gotten really into atmospheric games, and while this might not be up here alley (she loves games like inside, limbo and little nightmares) I sure am intrigued by it even if she isn’t.

Question is where the heck can I preorder it? I know it’ll slip my mind and I’ll forget, but I can’t find a link on their site and nothing shows on the App Store.

I’m assuming it’s just a bit too early and the links haven’t been updated yet?
