Apple Seeds Fourth Beta of macOS Mojave 10.14.6 to Developers

by

Apple today seeded the fourth beta of an upcoming macOS Mojave 10.14.6 update to developers, two weeks after seeding the third macOS Mojave 10.14.6 beta and nearly two months after the release of macOS Mojave 10.14.5, which brought AirPlay 2 support for third-party TVs.

The new macOS Mojave 10.14.6 beta can be downloaded through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences after the proper profile has been installed from Apple's Developer Center.

There were no new features or significant changes discovered in the first three betas of macOS Mojave 10.14.6, which indicates it likely focuses on bug fixes and performance improvements for issues that weren't able to be addressed in the macOS Mojave 10.14.5 update.

If new features are found in the fourth beta of macOS Mojave 10.14.6, we'll update this post with details.

macOS Mojave 10.14.6 is likely to be one of the last updates to the macOS Mojave operating system as Apple will soon transition to work on macOS Catalina, announced at WWDC.

I welcome all bug fixes of Mojave since I’m not going over to Catalina.
I’m hoping that Apple makes maCOS Mojave super stable for those who need to camp in the desert for awhile with some 32-bit apps until finding alternatives or companies get stable versions of their updated versions (all 64-bit) on macOS Catalina.

Drivers on hardware is mostly consumer’s concerns also and is why camping in macOS Mojave might be for some for awhile. Many companies will not upgrade their drivers, but use this time to make consumers buy newer versions of their products (makes the machine go around).

Yes, Apple has stated for a few years to update apps and drivers to 64-bit or find alternatives, but companies sometimes wait until the last minute due to cost expenditures and/or developers having to wait until the next OS (now macOS Catalina) comes out and/or works well enough with limited (or acceptable for awhile) bugs since it (in theory) eliminates 32-bit coding in the OS.

Of course you may ask. So far the apps that replace iTunes do not allow manual (drag and drop) transfer of content to iOS devices. Maybe this will change in the final version but I’m not holding my breath. I suspect it is a new Apple policy behind it. Anyway, since I never sync but always manage manually I need iTunes. Then there are a couple of 32 bit apps (which will not be updated to 64 bits) that I use daily and cannot live without. Moreover I do not see any compelling new functions in Catalina.
I think manual sync and drag and drop will be done through the Finder after iTunes is gone. As for the 32 bit apps going, yea I can see that being a compelling reason to stay.

I upgraded to a brand new mbp may 2019 Edition from a mbp retina mid 2012 two weeks ago, updated to 10.14.5 and since then I can watch my battery drain. Down to 0% from 100 in 2h20 with safari and one tab open.
Apple has become such a pain. Crazy how bad they have become in delivering reliable pro products.
