Apple Inks Apple Music Deal for 'Verified' Video Service From Genius

by

"Verified," a video service from Genius, is available on Apple Music as of today, reports The Verge. "Verified" features artists like Billie Eilish and Cardi B explaining the meaning behind the lyrics of their songs.

Under the terms of the deal, ‌Apple Music‌ will co-produce "Verified," and episodes will premiere on ‌Apple Music‌. After a set period of time, new content will also be available on the Genius website and YouTube.

Since "Verified" debuted in 2016, Genius has created more than 800 episodes. At this time, there are no plans to bring older episodes of "Verified" to the ‌Apple Music‌ platform.

There are two new "Verified" episodes that are available via ‌Apple Music‌. The first features Alec Benjamin's "Mind is A Prison" and the second features Yung Baby Tate's "CAMP."

‌Apple Music‌ and Genius have partnered up before. Genius provides lyrics for ‌Apple Music‌, and ‌Apple Music‌ is the official music player on the Genius.com website.

Smart move. Value-added features to differentiate them in a category that’s commodity, for the most part.

Hopefully they’ll make a deal for the previous content as well. Maybe Apple wants to see how it goes over first.

Sound idea, and I know its going to focus on artists who sell, but I wish they'd have some stuff from older artists. (Ignore the avatar!)

This is actually a really cool thing for those who may not already be familiar. The great thing about music is that it's subjective, so when it comes to most songs, you can listen to them and apply the lyrics in whatever way you want because it's up to your interpretation. That being said, it's nice to hear from artists what was going thru their head when they wrote a particular song. Maybe it's eerily similar to your interpretation or your own unique situation's experience that you applied it to, but even if not it's still fun to see what they intended those lyrics' meaning to be.

Plus I'm sure with Apple on board now, even more artists will start doing this.
