Logitech Debuts Trackpad Keyboards for 10.2-Inch iPad and 10.5-Inch iPad Air

Apple today announced that iPadOS 13.4 will feature trackpad support for all iPad Pro models, the iPad Air 2 and later, the fifth-generation iPad and later, and the iPad mini 4 and later. The software update will be released on March 24.

Trackpad support paves the way for Apple's new Magic Keyboard for 2018 and later iPad Pro models, coming in May, as well as third-party options.

Logitech's new keyboard with built-in trackpad for 10.5-inch iPad Air

Logitech today introduced new keyboard cases with built-in trackpads for the 10.2-inch iPad and the 10.5-inch iPad Air, both priced at $149.95 in the United States. The keyboards have been listed on Apple's online store, although they are not yet available. The keyboards will connect to the Smart Connector on each iPad, with no batteries required.

The full-sized keyboards feature an integrated trackpad with Multi-Touch gesture support, backlit keys, a full row of iPadOS shortcut keys, a kickback stand with 50-degree tilt, and four usage modes for typing, viewing, reading, and sketching. The case adds some protection to the iPad and includes a holder for the original Apple Pencil or Logitech Crayon.

The keyboard case for the 10.5-inch iPad Air is also compatible with the older 10.5-inch iPad Pro.

Man this case looks thick as hell and weighs 50% more than the iPad itself... hope we see some slimmer cases with trackpads...

This was the biggest feature missing for me when I tried to use my Ipad as a computer replacement. There are other issues. But the trackpad was my biggest one. Just felt ergonomically unnatural to constantly have to reach for the screen when I was typing a lot. Excited to check this out in person.
The iPad is neither a cheap device nor does it even run a full-featured operating system. Its non-existent input devices - read: keyboard, mouse, trackpad - make it an awful choice for a "computer replacement". Now they add keyboards and trackpads which basically turn the iPad into a... NOTEBOOK. But still with a crippled operating system.

May I ask WHY anyone would want to use this device as a notebook replacement, when you can get a real notebook with full featured software for even less money?

In all honesty: I don't get why anybody would want to use such a machine with all these add-ons instead of the real thing.

Definitely looks interesting, might pick one up for my Air (Never liked the 1st Gen Smart Keyboard, and the other options were meh anyway). I wonder how long it’ll be “Currently Unavailable” though? I guess they just wanted to announce it along with Apple’s new keyboard, but I hope it’s not too long until we can actually buy it.
It makes me really want to ditch my 6th Gen for an air. I just can't bring myself to get something with an A12 when I already have a mini 5, and I'm definitely not keen on going sideways to a 7th gen.

You're misunderstanding what I'm looking for.
I don't want to have to use any case on my iPad itself.

Doesn't the Logitech solution, while detachable, require the use of their case on the iPad itself?
(please forgive me if I'm wrong on that)

I'd like a docked solution that just makes use of the Dock Connector port and supports naked iPad usage.
The only reason it would require it is to stop the ipad from falling over backwards (for the kickstand element).

If you have a solution for that... it should work. The fact it's detachable from the case means the case has no link at all to the smart connector. It's like a 2 piece kit rather than a single item.

Well, my point was that the 10.5" Pro and 10.5" Air 3 are the same size, but 10.2" iPad 7 is a different depth. That means the case might either be a bit loose on the 10.5" models or else a bit tight on the 10.2".
They are 2 totally different devices. One is for the 7th Gen Ipad and one for the 10.5 devices. If you click the links it shows that
