Fortnite Comes to iPhones and iPads Through Xbox Cloud Gaming

Microsoft today announced that Fortnite is available through its Xbox Cloud Gaming service, which means iPhone and iPad users can play Fortnite for free with just a Microsoft account.

Fortnite is the first free-to-play game that has been aded to Xbox Cloud Gaming, which is still available in a beta capacity. Xbox Cloud Gaming is available in 26 countries and Fortnite can be played on Android smartphones and tablets, and Windows PCs in addition to iPhones and iPads.

Nothing needs to be installed since Xbox Cloud Gaming is browser-based over-the-air gaming, and there is no membership required because Fortnite is free. The game supports native touch controls or a connected controller.

With Fortnite available via Xbox Cloud Gaming, iPhone and ‌iPad‌ users who have not been able to play Fortnite on their mobile devices since the game was pulled from the App Store will once again be able to get access.

Cloud-based gaming service GeForce NOW has also been beta testing Fortnite support on iPhones and iPads, but Fortnite on GeForce NOW is only available in a closed beta. Fortnite through Xbox Cloud Gaming is available to anyone with a Microsoft account.

Apple has no plans to allow Fortnite back into the ‌App Store‌ while its legal battle with Epic Games is ongoing, so cloud-based gaming is the only way to access the popular battle royale game on iOS devices.

Ugh! Too late for the iOS users. They have moved on.

You got to have a Microsoft account in order to play it. That’s annoying.
I mean you need an Apple account to download apps on the App Store. I don't know what else you'd expect here, seems like a really moot criticism.

Love the tens of millions Epic has lost because of their lawsuit. This won't make much of a dent at all. The iOS players moved on :)

Being that Fortnite is a competitive online multiplayer game, I can't imagine that cloud services are an acceptable way to play. Has anyone tried this service?
I play via GeForce Now, works perfectly well with a good connection. Sure, I don’t compete, I play with my son. But I have no problems getting kills or wins. But then I’ve been gaming for four decades now, so I can cope with some minor lag. 😊

I don’t get all the hate for Epic games. It’s a fun game, it’s free. The over $100 million they sent to different charity groups and UN reliefs in April, that’s pretty insane really.

So should we call this sidestreaming?

Honestly it's nauseating to think that that this will allow users to enjoy an experience that hasn't been given a glance by the technical and content reviewers of the App Store. It just feels unsafe based on everything I've read from Apple's marketers and lawyers.

Sorry Epic the Fortnite kids are four years older now and they moved on to more grown up games like Elden Ring and you’ll find that the next gen kids will play something else. Fortnite is old now.
