Timothée Chalamet Wants to Star on Apple TV+ in New Ad for Streaming Service

Apple today shared a new "Call Me" ad in which actor Timothée Chalamet expresses his desire to star in an Apple TV+ show or movie. Chalamet has yet to make an appearance in any of Apple's original content, but the ad's release suggests that might change soon.


"Apple TV+ has almost all the biggest stars in Hollywood," says Apple, in the video's description on YouTube. "Almost. Timothée Chalamet wants in."

Last year, a similar ad was released in which actor Jon Hamm acts jealous about not appearing in any Apple TV+ content. Hamm joined the cast of the hit Apple TV+ drama series "The Morning Show" for its third season, which should be released later this year, so the ad ultimately foreshadowed his upcoming debut on the streaming service.

Apple TV+ now costs $6.99 per month after a price increase last year.

Compare this to the vast library of content on Netflix, HBO, Amazon, Disney....
Apple has chosen not to play the content library game because all the major content holders are already building their own services, competing for attention and giving them plenty of pricing leverage over Netflix or Prime. There's a reason Netflix is far and away the most expensive of the group, and why Prime's back catalog looks like a VHS $1 bin.

By not playing that game, Apple can offer a more attractive price point and focus on building a bank of new content. The service doesn't have to compete with Netflix, HBO or Disney -- just with their new content, and I'd say on the whole they're doing well. Most new series are losers (this has always been true on all networks), the trick is to take chances and pick up more hits than the competition.

Then, give it time. A hit like Ted Lasso will be something that people will want to look back on for the rest of their lives, and Apple will be there to charge them $7.

These ads aren't working for me. I think actually these ads highlight what's wrong with Apple TV. They think they can just throw money and, get big names, and win. That's literally the Microsoft strategy of the Ballmer days and if failed incredibly. Sure there's a few good shows on Apple TV (I liked Severance, Tehran, Foundation) but I can count them with one hand. Compare this to the vast library of content on Netflix, HBO, Amazon, Disney.... Instead of paying all of these actors, they should buy better quality content, or sports. I mean if they bought the digital rights to the Super Bowl then we're taking.
Exactly. I don't care about their so-called "big names". Just give me a good story, like Severance.
