Apple Opening Revamped Stores on Long Island and in Fairfax, Virginia

Apple will soon be opening revamped retail stores near Garden City, New York and Fairfax, Virginia, according to notices posted on its website.

Apple is opening a temporary store at Roosevelt Field, the largest shopping mall on Long Island, so it can renovate its existing store in the mall. The temporary store will be located in the west side of the mall, on the main level, but we have not confirmed if it is open yet. It is unclear when the renovated store will be completed, or what it will look like. Apple's retail design varies from store to store, but one modern element often included in newer spaces is an Apple Pickup station for in-store pickup of online orders.

Apple opened its Roosevelt Field location in 2002, months after the original iPod launched, and the company now operates 23 stores across New York state.

Over in Virginia, Apple is leaving the Fair Oaks shopping mall in Fairfax County, but is not moving very far away. Apple's website invites customers in the area to visit its new location "soon" at 4221 Fairfax Corner East Avenue, in the Fairfax Corner shopping plaza that is just across the Interstate 66 from the Fair Oaks mall. Apple has not shared an exact date and time for the relocated store's grand opening.

Apple opened its Fair Oaks store in 2008, less than a year after the original iPhone launched. It is in the Washington, D.C. suburbs, and not too far from Apple's first-ever store at Tysons Corner Center, which also moved as part of a revamp last year.

Update: The temporary Roosevelt Field store and the new Fairfax store both open Saturday, November 9, according to Apple.

Roosevelt Field has an interesting history. It was an originally an airport and many famous aviators took off from there, including Charles Lindbergh on his solo flight across the Atlantic. The original shopping center that was built there after the airfield closed was designed by I M Pei

I was on the team that opened the Fair Oaks store back in 2008 - kinda sad to see it move on, but that mall is dying and Apple is smart to get outta there...
Matt, I’m glad you’re finally back from your 15. We’ve been absolutely swamped in the family room! Lei said we’re out of appointments for the day so Lori added 253,000 people to the walk-in queue in Concierge. They’ve been waiting for 16 years. Kyle asked me to triage and everyone has a 3GS with water damage and cracking plastic. Sonny said to make an exception for CS. Nobody remembers their AppleID and GCRM is still down. Susan is coming and Charles is pissed.

Ugh! I can't stand Fairfax Corner.
I can’t stand the parking at Fairfax Corner. All the surface lots are jam packed and the garage is a hike from any of the stores.

The easy parking is one of the perks of Fair Oaks Mall and that store has been my goto vs Reston, Tysons, or Potomac Mills.
Indeed, though it's not like Tysons is lacking for parking, just so much easier at Fair Oaks.

Now the Clarendon Apple Store...that place and I have bad juju. Not their fault, and not just that I have to pay for parking, but every time I go there, it seems like something bad happens.
