iPhone 17 Pro Rumored to Feature New Design With These Two Changes

While the iPhone 17 lineup is still around 10 months away from launching, there are already plenty of rumors about the devices.

The latest information comes from The Information, which today reported that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature two notable design changes, including an aluminum frame and a larger bump for the rear cameras.

Yes, you read that right. Aluminum. This would make the iPhone 17 Pro models the first highest-end iPhones to use the material since the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in 2016. Apple used a stainless steel frame for the iPhone X through to the iPhone 14 Pro models, before switching to a titanium frame for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro models.

The back of iPhone 17 Pro models will use a mix of aluminum and glass, and have a rectangular camera bump, according to the report:

The back of the Pro and Pro Max models will feature a new part-aluminum, part-glass design. The top of the back will comprise a larger rectangular camera bump made of aluminum rather than traditional 3D glass. The bottom half will remain glass to accommodate wireless charging, two people said.

This would be the first significant design change for the rear camera system since the triple-lens system debuted on the iPhone 11 Pro in 2019. The lenses have increased in size since then, but the overall look has remained the same.

The so-called "iPhone 17 Air" is also expected to have a unique rear camera design, with a centered bump housing a single lens.

Keep in mind that Apple has yet to finalize the design of the iPhone 17 models, so some of these reported details could change over time.
