Resident Evil 2 Now Available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Capcom's Resident Evil 2 remake has debuted on Apple devices, making it the fourth Resident Evil title to arrive on Apple's mobile platforms.

The survival horror shooter is available as a free download with a limited part of the game being playable, after which players must purchase the full game to continue. The good news is that Capcom is running a promotional discount of 75% off the usual price for a limited time.

From now until January 8, the base game can be purchased for $9.99, while all in-game rewards can be unlocked for $1.99. After that date, the game will be sold for $39.99.

Resident Evil 2 requires an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 series model to run, along with iPads and Macs equipped with M1 chips or later. The game supports cross-progression across supported Apple devices, so players can continue their progress whether playing on iPhone, iPad, or Mac. It's also a universal purchase, meaning a single purchase grants access across all compatible Apple devices.

Capcom says the app is approximately 31GB in size, and that the installation process requires the target drive to have at least twice the size of the app in storage space available. An internet connection is also required to start the game. Resident Evil 2 can be downloaded from the App Store. [Direct Link]

Brilliant game and remake and when you are finished with this (and all the extra add-on stuff) RE3 is just as good.

My recomendation for a more imersive experience is to play it on a large screen device. So play it on an iPad or Mac, and if its connected to a larger screen and you're using a gamepad, even better :)

Oh, and turn the lights down, use headphones and don't play it just before going to bed.
For more fun, use it with your Apple watch or any workout device that logs heartbeats...always fun to laugh at it afterwards "yea, that peak is from when a mutant lizard chased me down the corridor.."

This might be my first AAA Mac game…

(Considering I’m still stuck in the Sim City 4 era, this is quite feat)

Sadly it's dead in the water now, since Capcom are still insisting you have an internet connection just to start the game.

I think it’s a real shame about this unnecessary control-freakery, as everything else about the release strategy is laudable.

One more reason why I’m waiting to purchase it on PS5
I have some good news!

Just tested, and the App Store version of Resident Evil 2 DOES launch without an internet connection once you have purchased the game, unlike the updated versions of 4, 7, and Village. This makes RE 2 an awesome buy for the $10 price. Hope that Capcom reverts the requirement for the other titles as well. ✌️

EDIT: Even better news!

Capcom has now released an update that removes the internet connection requirement when starting the app for 4, 7, and Village as well!

This was one of my favorites as a kid when it was on the OG PlayStation. To all those experiencing it for the first time, enjoy!!

With all the Final Fantasy and Resident Evil releases lately I think it would a perfect time for Apple to stick an M-series chip in the Apple TV …..just sayin!
