Don't Buy a MacBook Pro This Year

While there is always something new around the corner, rumors suggest that 2025 would be a particularly bad year to buy a MacBook Pro.

The current 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with the M4 series of chips are only a few months old, and updated models with the M5 series of chips will likely be released later this year, but both of these options are not great choices.

Why?

Next year, the MacBook Pro is expected to receive its first major redesign since 2021. Rumored features include an OLED display without a notch, and a thinner design, while an upgrade to the M6 series of chips is a given as well.

There are also rumors about the MacBook Pro eventually gaining 5G connectivity and a touch screen, but those upgrades are less certain for next year.

Unless you absolutely need or want a MacBook Pro this year, it seems best to wait until next year due to these more significant changes that are rumored. However, it is unclear if the MacBook Pro would retain all of its ports like HDMI and an SD card slot with a thinner design, so that is something to consider if that is important to you.

If you do buy a MacBook Pro with the M4 or M5 series of chips this year, though, rest assured that it will last you for many years. Apple silicon Macs have a terrific reputation compared to Intel-based Macs, with long-lasting performance and reliability.

Just wait if you can.
