Apple's default wallpaper for the new iPhone 16e has a reflective sphere, and there is apparently a hidden meaning behind this design.
According to Daring Fireball's John Gruber, Apple's default wallpapers for the iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16, and iPhone 16e subtly suggest how many rear camera lenses each device has. As noted by Gruber, it's a clever little touch.
Given the iPhone 16e has a single rear camera, the wallpaper has a single reflective sphere. Meanwhile, the wallpapers for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro visualize the two and three rear cameras on those respective devices.
Last year, Apple launched CarPlay Ultra, the long-awaited next-generation version of its CarPlay software system for vehicles. Nearly a year later, CarPlay Ultra is still limited to Aston Martin's latest luxury vehicles, but that should change fairly soon.
