And that's my point. 1800flowers doesn't send someone out from their corpo headquarters. They're just a middleman that add on a surcharge to have the flower shop in your own town make and deliver an arrangement. Contact that shop ahead of time. They'll at least let you know (if they value their reputation which most of them would on their two busiest holidays) if they can make the deadline or not and will most likely give you better pricing while also keeping dollars local. If you're someone who ends up buying on a regular or annual basis, perhaps it behooves you to form a relationship with the shop as well.

We don't need an app and a discount code for every transaction.

Domestic flowers make up a minority of the US market — roughly 20-30%, depending on the flower type and season.

Was dating my wife for all of 2 months and ordered 1800Flowers on Valentine's Day.

They contract out to local florists who get swamped during V-day and Mother's Day. Doesn't make sense to hire extra people for 2 days a year, not even seasonal.

Sooooo yeah, they actually delivered her flowers to her job... at 10:30PM. The security desk had dozens of late flowers sitting there. My wife (gf at the time) was like "I know the thought was there, but please never ever order with them again."

So for 15+ years I haven't used them. They lost my business forever. If you can't get it right, don't offer the service or just simply state that your local florists in the area have no further capacity and are sold out on delivery slots.

Don't ever go with 1800Flowers when it's a peak time like V day or Mother's Day. Their local florists WILL screw up delivery, and you'll have a disappointed gf/wife/mom.

A few years ago my dad died and my mom was in a tough place.

So for Mother's Day, I ordered her flowers from 1-800 flowers. Except they forgot to deliver the flowers and my mom thought I had forgotten about her.

Shame on 1-800 flowers. I will always tell of my experience and strongly encourage everyone to stay away. They were once a good company 15 years ago but now are run with razor thin margins and can't even get flowers delivered when promised.
