Apple Just Announced a $230 Knitted Sock for Your iPhone

Remember the iPod Sock? Apple's selling a fabric bag accessory again, but this time for your iPhone – and this one costs way more.

The iPhone Pocket is a collaboration with Japanese fashion house ISSEY MIYAKE (the brand's founder designed Steve Jobs' black mock-turtleneck). It's essentially a stretchy 3D-knitted pouch with a strap that can hold your iPhone, AirPods, and whatever else fits inside, and it's available in 11 different colors across two strap lengths.

At $150 for the short strap version and $230 for the long strap, it makes the old iPod Sock look like a bargain. That cost $29 for a pack of six back in 2004. Inflation doesn't quite account for the price difference, but then again, you're also paying for ISSEY MIYAKE's design pedigree here.

The iPod Sock was more functional in that it protected your music player from scratches, but the iPhone Pocket leans more into fashion. You can wear it as a crossbody bag, tie it to your purse, or carry it handheld. The ribbed knit structure stretches to show your iPhone screen through the fabric, so you're able to check notifications without removing the device.

The iPhone Pocket launches November 14 at select Apple Stores in eight countries. It's also available from apple.com in France, Greater China, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the UK, and the U.S. Just in time for holiday gift-giving, assuming you know someone who really wants their iPhone in a designer accessory.
