So basically Apple is trying to get rid of their AirTag surplus before the next gen releases.

Seems like it.

But maybe Apple's also trialling a "limited-edition" AirTag so they can keep selling us the same AirTag over and over? Just like selling us the same watch straps over and over by changing the color. No tech innovation required.

People went nuts over "pet rocks" in the 70's - and they were functionally useless!
Apple has been doing these limited AirTags since at least 2022 so it's neither getting rid of stock before an update, nor is it trialling anything.

Japan always gets the goodies.

Meanwhile, we don't even a cheap power cube. I'm not asking for the newest, GaN brick. Just a basic one for emergencies.
That’s because, unlike in the US, giving away free stuff in Japan wouldn’t result in fistfights or people getting shot.

If the power supply is cheap enough, it could instead cause an emergency 🔥
