Apple Just Closed a Popular Loophole Used by Customers

Apple has closed a popular loophole that allowed any customer in the U.S. or Canada to save on the purchase of a new Mac or iPad.

Specifically, Apple has an online education store that allows college/university students, faculty/teachers, and select others in education to receive up to a 10% discount on eligible products. In the U.S. and Canada, this storefront has long operated without a verification system, but that is changing starting today.

Apple announced that it has expanded the UNiDAYS verification system that it already used in many European countries to the U.S. and Canada, meaning that customers who are not students or faculty will no longer be able to break the rules and take advantage of the lower prices available through the education store.

This change comes just two months after Apple released the MacBook Neo with a breakthrough $499 starting price on its U.S. education store. In addition, the Apple Watch is available through the education store starting today.
