One Way the 20th Anniversary iPhone Will Differ From the iPhone X

When Apple celebrated the iPhone's 10th birthday with the iPhone X in 2017, it offered the device in a single size: 5.8 inches. A bigger model based on the same Home-button-less design wouldn't arrive until the iPhone XS Max was launched a year later.

Next year, the 20th anniversary iPhone won't make buyers wait.

According to Bloomberg, Apple plans two anniversary models next year that are likely to roughly match this year's upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in terms of size. The latter devices are widely expected to be 6.3 and 6.9 inches, respectively, though Apple hasn't confirmed those dimensions.

Both anniversary model sizes are expected to share the rumored edge-to-edge design with curved glass on all sides, and both are likely to get the same next-generation 2-nanometer A21 chip.

For a commemorative iPhone, offering a size choice from day one is a break from how Apple handled its last big anniversary model. But if the devices are set to replace the iPhone 19 Pro and iPhone 19 Pro Max next year, then the decision makes perfect sense.

Apple is expected to launch the devices in the fall of 2027 alongside a second-generation foldable iPhone. A regular iPhone 19 model is likely to follow in the spring of 2028.
