Apple Reportedly Planning to Wind Down 'iPhone Upgrade Program'

2024 iPhone BoxesAfter launching a new "Apple Upgrade" program next week, Apple plans to stop accepting new iPhone Upgrade Program sign-ups, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

It remains to be seen if existing iPhone Upgrade Program members will be able to remain enrolled in the program beyond their current terms, or if they will be migrated to the Apple Upgrade program at some point. One key difference, according to the report: Apple Upgrade will not bundle in AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss coverage, which should result in a lower monthly payment. AppleCare+ will remain available separately, with upfront, annual, and monthly payment options.

Must have been too good of a deal for consumers.

When the replacement is a financing scheme with Klarna, I sort of lose my appetite.

It’s bizarre that Apple would push-away their most consistent, loyal customers, those with the iPhone Upgrade Program. It’s a guaranteed yearly sale.

How Apple handles current IUP members is going to be telling. Some people signed up for it because of the AppleCare. wonder (if they get moved to the new system) they get the Applecare grandfathered in
The AppleCare was not free. A number of us avoided iUP BECAUSE you were forced to pay for AppleCare with it.

It's not a hard pull every year with iPhone Upgrade Program - I'm sure it was upon initial application, but I've been on it for years w/o hard pull.
i can confirm this. been on the iup for 5 or so years and only the initial signup was a hard pull, every year/phone after that was a soft pull.

Best news I’ve seen about this so far is Klarna may switch to soft credit pulls each year instead of Citizen’s, “hard pull” each year, with each upgrade. The hard pulls caused me to leave the program so fingers crossed
