I gave up on Pocket Casts right after (IIRC) Automattic bought it and rapidly turned it into garbage.
Garbage? Still beats every other podcast app out there. Especially the queue system. I'm currently at 146 days listened since 2019.

But is this podcast app really "popular"? I know it used to be cool many many years ago, but I haven't heard anyone use it in the last like 5 years. Everyone seems to be using Apple Podcasts or Overcast or Spotify
Yes, I've listened to 259 days worth of podcasts using the app since 2018. They're one of the few apps that actyally honored the lifetime purchase after moving to a subscription model too so I continue to get new features.

I mean, that hasn't stopped them from pounding "Subscribe to plus!" in every other screen, not giving Apple Watch support unless you subscribe or almost putting ads on the main player screen for lifetime purchase subscribers before they got an insane amount of blowback and reverting. It's my favorite podcast app but they're always trying to find nickels and dimes in every corner of the app when they can.

Id also like to know how many new features you're thinking of because all the ones I can think of are behind the subscription paywall.
I've literally never seen an ad, I have every new feature, and I've had access to the Apple Watch app since day one. You must not have made the cutoff to be considered lifetime.

I think the reason I use Pocketcasts is because they have more variable playback speeds (I typically listen to mine at 1.6 speed) and the user interface is still great. I used to use overcast but I'm not a fan of the developer

Nice 👍😎 I just use the regular Apple podcast app on my Apple TV to watch all of my podcasts - I watch a lot of Leo Laporte tech podcasts (such as MacBreak Weekly) on there as well

Definitely planning on replacing my 2022 Apple TV when the new one comes out! I just hope that they don’t copy what Roku just did and raise prices by a lot:

The price increases don't make sense.

The Streaming Stick Plus, Streaming Stick 4K, and Streambar SE all have 1GB RAM, yet the price increases are all different. Meanwhile, the Roku Ultra with 2GB RAM will see the same $50 price increase as the 1GB Streambar SE.

And a $30 price increase for a 5 year old device? 😂 (Streaming Stick 4K was announced on Sep. 20, 2021 ('https://newsroom.roku.com/news/2021/09/roku-introduces-all-new-roku-streaming-stick-4k-and/memssmpw-1632010197') as 2022 year model ('https://developer.roku.com/dev/docs/hardware'))
