WhatsApp Now Lets You Save a Contact's Username

Whatsapp FeatureFollowing its username feature rollout, WhatsApp is now letting users save a contact's username when they add their name and phone number. The username field is shown between the first and last name fields and the phone number section.

You can add a new contact in WhatsApp by tapping the + button in the navigation bar of the Chats tab. According to WABetaInfo, when usernames become more widely available, WhatsApp will populate the username field automatically when users create a new contact from the chat info screen.

it’s useful for privacy, but I don’t think it’s a groundbreaking feature, WhatsApp is basically catching up with what Telegram has had for years.

Only the US still uses SMS. It’s funny when they announce new features for Messenger during keynotes.

This story must be tongue-in-cheek, so I'll play along.

I'm blown away at the innovation at WhatsApp. They've done something no one has ever considered before: saving the username of the person you are communicating with. I hope in a future release, they let you carry on multiple conversations with different people. Imagine the possibilities.

How is everyone else talking to friends in different countries though? I’d have to take an international poll to see if my friends have any other apps and if they have the same one. Otherwise I’m still stuck with the one I hate.
Use Email. 😉
If my friends to no accept, that i don’t want to use WhatsApp, they must accept that there are many other ways to talk or write.
Signal for example or simple: Short phone calls.
