eWeek reports that the upcoming revision to Mac OS X (10.2.2) will feature a journaling file system:
According to sources, the journaling technology, code-named "Elvis," will make its debut in the forthcoming Mac OS X 10.2.2, which Apple is reportedly on track to post as a free update within the next three weeks.
The new journaling file system is likely the product of former BeOS engineer, Dominic Giampaolo who was hired by Apple back in March.
File journaling provides a more robust file system, which may appeal to Apple's new enterprise customers. File Journaling is reportedly disabled by default, and incurs a 10-15 percent performance penalty (presumably to file-related performance).
