Apple Fitness+ on iPad Not Yet Available [Update: Now Available]

Apple Fitness+ launched this morning for Apple Watch, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, but people who have been attempting to use the feature on an ‌iPad‌ have run into a hiccup.

apple fitness plus no ipad
On the ‌iPad‌, the Fitness app isn't installed automatically and must be downloaded from the App Store. Unfortunately, when attempting to download the app, ‌iPad‌ users are running into an error message that says "This app requires specific features not available on this device."

This message shows up even on a compatible ‌iPad‌ that's running iPadOS 14.3, which is supposed to unlock Fitness+. The feature appears to be working on the iPhone and the ‌Apple TV‌ at this time, but until the Fitness app can be downloaded properly on the ‌iPad‌, ‌iPad‌ owners have no way to use Fitness+.

Apple is likely working to get the Fitness app out for ‌iPad‌ owners, but there's no ETA on when it might be available at this time. We've reached out to Apple for more information and will update this article if and when we hear back or when the app goes live.

Update 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time: The Fitness+ app can now be downloaded on the iPad.

I realize this probably has more to do with my limited understanding of what it takes for the App Store and iOS updates to work and roll out, but how did we get to an eagerly anticipated, 11th-hour launch of Apple Fitness+ and somehow no one knew that the iPad app wasn’t ready in the App Store?

Not on our Apple TV, even after update. Maybe our Apple TV is too old? A1469, software version 7.6.2.
That sounds like you have a third-generation Apple TV. I'm pretty sure Fitness+ is only supported on the models that actually run tvOS (Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K), since it requires tvOS 14.3.

There's a very slim possibility Apple could add it in a later Apple TV Software Update for the older Apple TV, as it did for Apple TV+, but I wouldn't count on it, as the older model likely doesn't have the necessary Bluetooth support to communicate with the Apple Watch.

It’s like Apple really doesn’t want to support health features on the iPad. Baffling.

I suspect somebody left the flag on in the Fitness app that says an Apple Watch needs to be paired with the device, and since you can't pair an Apple Watch with an iPad, you can't actually download it 😀

This is actually the same message that's always appeared if you tried to download the Fitness or Activity app onto an iPhone that doesn't have an Apple Watch paired with it.

I was looking for the Fitness app in the app store on my iPad and it doesn't even show up in search. They must have taken it down completely. I was hoping to do a cycling workout with the iPad tonight, but may have to start with iPhone as my screen.
