This is the "neo Effect". When a $500 Neo does what you need, why spend on the $1,000 Mac? Yes, I know some people have a use for the more powerful computer, but most people are using Safari to watch YouTube or so,me other lightweight task.
The 15” MacBook Air is one of the best laptops available at this price if you need a larger screen in a laptop, which many could use if they are multitasking. The 16” MacBook Pro is selling for $2,449 in comparison. If you just need a bigger screen, this is an awesome deal. I notice multitasking gets cramped on my 13” M4.

Hell - this laptop at $1,099 and a Neo at $599 (as a travel focused laptop) is a great combo.

Why not buy a M4 MBA instead? They are so cheap
Well, double the base storage, over twice as fast base storage as well, faster wifi, faster cpu, faster gpu etc.

Plenty of reasons to get an m5 at this price

60 Hz screen? No, thank you
I agree with you, but I tolerate it since I mostly use my MBA docked anyhow.

I do wish there was a 120hz BTO option on the MBA though, for sure.

On the positive side, unlike the iPad Mini, the 60hz screen on the MBA is at least an excellent one.

They aren't "cheaper enough" from what I'm seeing.
This. If they are new and $800 the m4 would be the answer. But sometimes at $999 if you’re lucky the price difference doesn’t make sense. Get the newer tech for $100 more

The MBA has a really nice 60hz panel (and panel in general).
It punches way above its weight.
Yeah for me colour accuracy on a laptop is the priority for my photo/video editing. The p3 colour gamut display is excellent for this, and i can tolerate the 60hz screen as it not as noticeable on a laptop due to the viewing distance. Good thing is it does support 120 hz external monitors. MBA M5 15” is absolutely fantastic though, and at these prices incredible value for money.
