VW Planning to Offer Apple Wallet Car Keys on iPhone

VW Apple Wallet Car Key MockVolkswagen is planning to offer Apple Wallet car keys in future vehicles, according to new server-side Apple code.

The code does not provide any more details, so we do not know which VW vehicle models will offer the feature or when.

With an Apple Wallet car key, you can use your iPhone or Apple Watch to lock, unlock, and start your vehicle. The feature is already offered by Audi, BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and select other automakers in various countries.

Don't trust code leaks as a sign of upcoming support. Same code was found in Lexus and no announcement months later. And I think the only Toyota that got it post-code discovery was the RAV4 and that was only with an extra subscription. There's a difference between "planning" to do something and just "testing."

I think the whole German economy to be honest. You look at where innovation is happening in Europe, and for the Germans it is really underweighted in growing sectors and overweighted in mature or declining sectors. It's Ukrainian drones and IT; it's Scandinavian pharmaceuticals and green tech; it's British RISC computing and theoretical science; French aerospace and big-ticket R&D. The Germans are still stuck in a world of metal-bashing with a Jetsons-esque view of tech and private investment that trivializes both.
