Apple Seeds Seventh visionOS 27 Beta to Developers

Apple today provided developers with the seventh beta of an upcoming visionOS 27 update for testing purposes. The beta comes a week after Apple released the fifth beta.

visionOS 27 can be installed by opening the Settings app, going to Software Updates, and opting into Beta Updates.

visionOS 27 introduces Siri AI, the smarter and more capable version of ‌Siri‌ that's similar in capability to chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude. On the Vision Pro, ‌Siri‌ can answer questions about anything the wearer is looking at, and there's a new ‌Siri‌ orb that can be placed anywhere in wearer's virtual space.

Panorama photos can be turned into spatial environments, and there's a new Icelandic Thórsmörk environment that features dramatic mountains, valleys, and glaciers, along with the northern lights. Web Environment support allows developers to create 360-degree environments in Safari for a more native Vision Pro browsing experience.

App windows are now curved to provide a more immersive workspace, and Control Center has been reorganized to make system controls easier to find. Apple added a smaller widget size, and notifications automatically expand when the wearer looks at them.

More on what's new in visionOS 27 is listed in our Vision Pro roundup.

Recent layoffs of Apple employees working on the Vision Pro were broader than previously thought, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports. Last month, Gurman said that Apple cut around 100 jobs from the Vision Products Group, with those cuts centered on the headset's gaming and immersive video teams. Gurman now says the layoffs also reached Vision Pro staff across the rest of the company, including ...

Regarding the AVP as a business tool: Using a Wide or Ultra Wide virtual display of my Mac on my AVP to see and work with large visual graphs and layouts is now my preferred interface. Better (for this use) than my two Apple Displays. I can put my entire office (minus printers) into my backpack - MacBook Pro, Apple Vision Pro, mouse (optional), so I can be productive anywhere. I use this to do real work for real clients for real revenue. Luckily, I have no problems with wearing the AVP for long sessions. Weight will come down in the future. I have seen the future, and I like it.

Finally decided to install the dev beta... the spatial panoramas are something else! I'd kind of written off taking panoramas, but really going to need to take more now!
Agree. Am impressed at how this handled my Bryce and Grand Canyon panoramas. If I could add some ambient wind/bird sounds it would be perfect.

It sucks that your vision pro is on borrowed time, but you had to have known it was a risky purchase.
I don’t consider it risky at all. It was the best Tech Tool purchase I have made in a very long time.
I didn’t buy it primarily to watch immersive videos or play games. It’s a business tool that generates money, not just another toy.

Immersive computing is here to stay, whether it is VR or AR. The APIs and tools apply to the whole Apple Ecosystem. But if you are hooked on click-bait news, then it will feel risky.

Don't get me wrong. I love an occasional VR sesh, but spatial computing or whatever certainly doesn't seem to be taking off in any meaningful way. Even Zuck seems to be pivoting away from it.
Zuck does not build anything close to an AVP
