Apple Working to Expand HomeKit

Apple is working to revamp HomeKit amid a new push into the smart home market, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In a report that detailed the impending launch of next-generation Apple TV and HomePod mini models, as well as Apple's all-new smart home hub, Gurman said that the company is developing broader smart-home ecosystem software for its devices.

Apple apparently plans to expand the ‌HomeKit‌ platform with support for new categories of connected products. The company is also said to be working with third-party manufacturers on new devices designed for the Siri AI-powered smart home platform.

The new Apple TV, HomePod mini, and smart home hub are set to be introduced on Tuesday, October 13, Gurman claims.

It's about time they expanded the categories drastically. My Netatmo weather station is one of those devices that has integrated the rain gauge and wind gauge into HomeKit, but HomeKit doesn't have a clue what to do with it, so it just sits there as unsupported.

HomeKit is such a neglected product. It would be nice if HomeKit would read the data.

If this is going to rely on the new Siri AI, I'm nervous. Am I the only user who is finding that the new Siri AI is not all that much better than the old Siri, and that it still seems noticeably less capable than other AIs?
