How to Get Siri to Transcribe Your Requests in iOS 14

by

In ‌iOS 14, Apple's Siri voice assistant got a major update that introduced a more compact interface, with ‌Siri‌ appearing as an animating orb at the bottom of the screen instead of taking over the whole display.

To keep the new interface as small as possible, ‌‌Siri‌‌ by default no longer displays the text of what you've spoken. If you found real-time transcription useful (to check that ‌Siri‌ was interpreting your requests accurately, for example) you can bring it back, so that it works like in previous versions.

  1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Select Siri & Search.
  3. Select Siri Feedback.
  4. Enable Always Show Speech by tapping the switch next to it, so that it's in the green ON position.

After following the steps, whatever you're saying to ‌Siri‌ will show up in a small popup over the ‌‌Siri‌‌ orb at the bottom of the screen.
