Apple Seeds Fourth Beta of tvOS 17.2 to Developers [Update: Public Beta Available]

Apple today seeded the fourth beta of an upcoming tvOS 17.2 to developers for testing purposes, with the beta coming two weeks after the release of the third tvOS 17.2 beta.

Registered developers are able to download the tvOS 17.2 update by opting in to the beta through the Settings app on the Apple TV. A registered developer account is required.

tvOS updates are often minor in scale compared to other operating system updates, focusing primarily on bug fixes and smaller improvements rather than notable outward-facing changes, but tvOS 17.2 introduces an overhauled ‌Apple TV‌ app.

The app now includes a sidebar that houses content from both Apple's services and streaming services that integrate with the tvOS Watch Now feature. There are dedicated sections for Search, Watch Now, ‌‌Apple TV‌+‌, MLS Season Pass, Sports, the Store, and the Library at the top of the sidebar, along with dedicated sections for streaming services like ABC, CBS, Comedy Central, Hulu, ESPN, Discovery, Peacock, Prime Video, and more.

You can click into each streaming service to see content that's available specifically on that service, and there's also a new My TV section that replaces "My Channels."

It’s not just you. I’ve had freezing / buffering issues despite having gigabit fiber and a WiFi 7 router. Every other device works fine.
Since TvOS 17, the apple tv system is so slow, it's almost unusable. Try to play Music from our library and it takes forever to load, then forever to create a shuffled playlist, then forever to start playing from that playlist. Then, after play off that playlist for a while, it just stops and goes back to the main menu. It was working just fine before 17. Also not too happy with the album art animations. Never asked for that! Is there a way to turn that off?

Not sure if it's just me or not, but since the last update, I only average about 4mbps downloads and it seems to clog up my entire home network. If I try to stream anything, it looks like an old VHS tape in quality. I usually stream some TV as I begin my work day from home. Now not only is the quality awful, constantly freezing or reloading, but when I try to work while streaming, it's like I'm on dial-up. Nothing else has changed other than whatever the last update was.

Right now, I am likely going to pass on 17.2 as I have heard some not so good things about the new sidebar from beta users in other forums. So that means I've stopped updating my Apple Watch series 7 (sticking with OS9) and tvOS 17.0.
Count me as not a fan of the sidebar, at least as currently implemented. Seems to add extra clicks without adding much value. Hopefully they refine it and make it feel more organic and less like an unnecessary add-on.

I keep hoping that every tvOS update fixes the issues with sharing audio with AirPods Pros. I can’t imagine I’m the only one having issues with it. We’ve been having intermittent connections, especially when either myself or my wife is already connected using a set of AirPod Pros, and then trying to add the other person’s. It either kicks off the person who is originally connected and then connects the 2nd person, or doesn’t allow the other person to connect at all.
