Interesting. Pre-launch discounts is a weird way to convey Samsung has confidence in the value they're offering.
I don't view this any differently than when the carriers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile) offer free iPhone upgrades with a trade in.

The end goal (generating sales) is the same.

Ecosystem, though Samsung has shiny new hardware and software features there is little commitment other than to profit off data harvesting, privacy is not their main goal. Though Apple has better privacy mindset it still can be improved. With Samsung you have something today and it maybe abandoned in a few years like Google, Apple in comparison does this much less as an example 3D Touch but that is cost measure and at times poorly thought and adopted. Apple at times is its own worst enemy/critic.
The Samsung is *more* expensive than the iPhone.

The privacy screen is indeed true and useful innovation.
Hope Apple is taking notes?

This is what I love about Samsung. They have amazing Trade-In deals for previous generations as well as huge savings with corporate benefits unlike Apple

But there are trade offs that Samsung cannot offer like Apple does: security option that makes iPhone the most secured smartphone in the planet and trusted by governments, best products, customer services, product supports and corporate stores availability to serve any needs for Apple customers for convenience.
